1 K compact, lightweight, long-life hybrid cryocoolers

The development and practical application of quantum science and technology significantly depend on the progress of cryogenic systems covering 2 K and below. Adopting a 3 K four-stage high-frequency pulse tube cryocooler, and a JT cooler, we proposed a pioneering solution of coupling a four-stage high-frequency regenerative cryocooler with a recuperative cryocooler to develop a long-life (MTBF >5 years), compact, lightweight (weight ≤20 kg), and high-cooling efficiency hybrid cryocooler operating at 1-2 K. The achievement laid a key foundation for the cryogenic system associated for quantum communication technology, and the mK cryogenic system required for superconducting quantum computing.
