Shanghai Boreas Cryogenics Co., Ltd., founded in February 2018, is a National High-tech Enterprise headquartered in Nanxiang Town, one of the four renowned historical and cultural towns in Shanghai. Boreas Cryogenics leads in cryogenic technology through its own intellectual property, offering long-life, low-interference Stirling-type pulse tube cryocooler systems operating from 2 K to ambient temperature, regenerative and recuperative hybrid technologies covering 2 K to sub-Kelvin, and cryogen-free dilution refrigerators with high cooling capacity in mK range. These core capabilities establish the company's technical leadership in cryogenic solutions for scientific research and industrial applications.
It focuses on R&D, manufacturing, sales and customized engineering solutions for a series of high-end or specialized applications such as Extremely-low Temperature, Ultra-high Cooling Capacity, Ultra-long Operation Life, Extremely-low Vibration, Extremely-low EMI, Ultra-high Cooling Efficiency, and Extremely Micromation.
Boreas Cryogenics has three business segments: Quantum Science and Technology, Applied Superconductivity, and Infrared Optoelectronics, providing the associated cryogenic systems for them. Under the leadership of Professor Haizheng Dang, founder and Chief Scientist of the company, breakthrough progresses have been made in the above fields:
In the field of Applied Superconductivity, we have developed long-life Stirling-type pulse tube cryocoolers with the cooling capacity of over 1,220 W by a single unit. It has been applied and verified in high-Tc superconducting projects of China Southern Power Grid, etc. At present, the cryocooler has been adaptively designed and can effectively work in a wide temperature range of 4.2-80 K, and is actively making contribution to the construction of superconducting magnet cooling systems for controlled nuclear fusion syetems, providing strong support for the development of fusion energy and superconducting technology.
In the field of Infrared Optoelectronics, we developed the single and multi-stage long-life low-interference Stirling-type pulse tube cryocoolers, which can effectively cover 2 K to ambient temperature, achieving the ability to fully cover the customized cooling needs of infrared detectors with short, medium, long and very-long wavelengths. At the same time, in response to the emerging demands for extremely-low temperatures and very-long MTBF required by deep space exploration, astronomical observation, and space telescopes in recent years, we have successfully developed the cryocooler products for space & ground dual-use, making contributions to space exploration endeavors both domestically and internationally.
As a result, Boreas Cryogenics can offer completely self-made cryogenic systems that cover the cooling needs of Quantum Science and Technology, Applied Superconductivity and Infrared Optoelectronics, with remarkable advantages such as high cooling capacity, extremely-low temperature, long MTBF, low interference, compact and lightweight.
Since its founding, the company has independently or jointly undertaken more than 100 projects. In the field of Quantum Science and Technology, by proposing the innovative technical route of four-stage Stirling-type pulse tube cryocooler coupled by JT cooler, we have developed the new-type hybrid cryocooler reaching 1.36 K, which is the lowest temperature ever achieved by similar arrangements over the world. It has been verified in cooling the practical superconducting nanowire single-photon detector, which is one of the core components of the optical quantum computer. And thus, we have the capability of manufacturing and production of associated cryocooling systems required in optical quantum computing, space quantum communication and deep space exploration.
Following above progresses, we have further developed the full-technology chain, high cooling capacity cryogen-free mK dilution refrigerator. The actual products successfully achieve a no-load temperature of 5 mK and a net cooling capacity of more than 1,300 μW at 100 mK, in which the self-developed precooling pulse tube cryocooler with a cooling capacity of more than 3.0 W at 4.2 K is impressive. Both no-load temperature and cooling capacity at typical temperatures have reached international advanced levels.
